VIVID
Vivid is a bold collection of modern accessory designs, using Rowan’s iconic yarn; Kidsilk Haze.
“It was really important to me to create a collection that celebrated the colour palette and the yarn itself, but that also felt really authentic to my design style. So I brought texture, geometric patterns and bold colour blocking, to Kidsilk Haze.”
With Kidsilk Haze you get this incredibly subtle, beautiful stitch definition that gives an extra dimension to what at first glance may look like a plain poncho or wrap. In addition to knit and purl textured patterns, travelling cabled stitches feature in several of the designs to add extra texture and structural elements to designs.
“The first thing I love about Kidsilk Haze is the incredible colour palette; the intense, vibrant colours that sit beautifully alongside interesting and subtle neutrals, just wows me every time I see it on display in a yarn shop.
The best thing about designing with Kidsilk Haze, for me, is the range of possibilities it holds; it can be knitted to many different tensions, on many different needle sizes, producing a whole range of effects. It can be held singly for light airy fabrics or held double to create a more dense, squishy fabric.”
The collection also features lots of super simple pieces that are easy to knit, but also the perfect canvas for playing with colour; different combinations of colour, the weights of colour blocks and intensity of stripes.
“I love designing accessories because they are easy to knit and wear, they’re accessible and appeal to a wide range of knitters, but also, you can have a lot of fun with them!
After releasing ‘My London’ last year and seeing how it was embraced by knitters, I hope that ‘Vivid’ will be equally as strong at celebrating accessories and showcasing them.”
“The textured patterns in Kidsilk Haze are beautifully subtle, which I really love for this collection being that it’s so bold in colour, and not completely lost in the halo of mohair as you might expect them to be.
The key to working textured patterns in Kidsilk Haze for me was holding the yarn double. Throughout the collection I have used the yarn both held singly and held double, and either way you get a gorgeous fabric, but when you hold Kidsilk Haze double it’s a completely different knitting experience as well as a completely different fabric that you achieve.”
