As a designer, I see a new yarn as a new challenge, and that’s how I approached creating my ‘Texted Tweed Haze’ collection. My starting point is to interrogate the yarn and find out what it’s all about, what it’s capabilities are. How does it take texture? And cables? What colour combinations can I create from the palette? What is the fabric like and what garment shapes would it suit? Through creating yarn wraps, swatching and sketching, you start to get a feel for the collection you’re building.
This lightweight, chunky, hybrid of Felted Tweed and Kidsilk Haze, has so many inherent qualities I wanted to show off, so there are some super simple designs in the collection that really let the yarn shine, in modern garment shapes with neat finishings.
There’s so much texture in the yarn itself, but I wanted to take that a step further. Simple knit purl textured patterns and striking deconstructed cables just add an extra dimension to this collection.
Colour blocking is something I like to play around with a lot; especially the weights of different colour blocks and stripes, how they change the overall feel of the garment and how the colours interact with each other. From colour tipped trims, to unusual stripe sequences and colour blocks created through garment construction, there’s plenty of ways to play with colour in this collection.
